On Friday 14th December Santa came to visit all the children in St. Paul's JNS. He was kindly transported to the school by the Fire Brigade and all the children were delighted to see him. The boys and girls in Room 8 received a little treat each from Santa Claus. Thanks to all the parents in the Parent's Association for facilitating this.
Well done to all the girls and boys in Room 8 for all their hard work on the Nativity Play "Prickly Hay". The first show was on Monday 10th December for the Jnr and Snr Infant parents and the second show was on Tuesday 11th December for the 1st and 2nd Class parents. The children worked really hard on this play and the results could really be seen in their excellent performance. Well done everyone and thanks to all the parents for helping with the costumes.
We had a visit from a science lecturer from Trinity College Dublin called Mattias recently and the experiments that he did with the class were excellent. After his visit a lot of the children in the class decided that they wanted to become scientists!! He introduced the class to liquid nitrogen and experimented with putting different objects into it to see what would happen. The children made their own ice-cream using cream, yogurt, sweets and liquid nitrogen!! Then they ate all of the ice-cream! Take a look at our photos.
There was a lot of excitement in Room 8 around Hallowe'en time. The children all dressed up in their spooky Hallowe'en costumes before we went on our Witches Walk around Ayrfield. Thanks to all for your sponsorship. We raised a lot of money for the school with this annual fund-raising event. The Parent's Association kindly organised the Haunted House and the children really enjoyed these activities.
We welcomed all the boys and girls in Room 8 back to school after the summer holidays. The children are now in 2nd Class and are the oldest children in the school. There are 30 children in our class and we are situated upstairs beside the library. We have a busy term ahead and we look forward to lots of learning.
We were very lucky early in the term to receive a visit from the Kilbarrack Fire Brigade. The firemen showed the children all the different equipment that they need to put out fires. Take a look at our photos.
In preparation for our entry to the Discover Primary Science 2018 Competition the children in Room 8 have been busy completing experiments. We completed a Build a Boat experiment, Make Your Own Life Jacket experiment and Investigating Sounds. The girls and boys enjoyed learning about science. Take a look at some photos of our Design a Boat experiment.
Maths For Fun started on Wednesday 11th April and will run until Wednesday 2nd May. It consists of small groups of children working with a volunteer parent on maths games. In these games the children are able to use their maths skills in a fun environment. Many thanks to all the parents who volunteered to help.
The children in Room 8 turned out in all their finest green outfits for our St. Patrick's Day celebrations. There was a lot happening in the school in the days running up to St. Patrick's Day. We had our school concert where all the classes performed a song or a poem. This was followed by a ceili where we were lucky enough to receive a visit from some local musicians who played some fabulous Irish music. We had been learning Shoe the Donkey so we danced around the hall with all the other classes. Everyone wore lots of green and a lot of fun was had by all. Take a look at the pictures.
There are 30 children in our class. Check back to see what is happening in Room 8.
