In P.E. we are focusing on the area of orienteering. We have found this really fun. We each have a key card and have to find the corresponding picture under the cone. We are looking forward to completing more orienteering activities.
It was a busy month for visitors to our school. Firefighters from North Strand Fire Station and Gardaí from Coolock Garda Station came for a visit. We enjoyed learning more about the emergency services in our community. World Book Day brought great excitement for the children in Room 1. Everyone brought in their favourite book - we made a book review of these. They are on display on our corridor. The children from second class visited us - they read their favourite book and we read our book to them. This was a real highlight for the children. Congratulations to all the boys and girls on successfully completing the Mighty Mouth Programme. Over the past few weeks we have learned lots about looking after our teeth. We are trying our best to drink more water and milk but less juices and fizzy drinks.. We are also taking our time when brushing our teeth at home both morning and night. Many thanks to our local dental nurse Adrienne for facilitating the programme and coming in to visit the children in Room 1. We recently had a visit from Garda Conor. He spoke to us about the various parts of his uniform - hat, vest, handcuffs and walkie talkie. We even got to hold some of these. Conor chatted to us about the importance of the Gardaí and how they are there to help us in times of need. Garda Conor even answered out questions - some of which were very tricky!! Spring is finally here. The boys and girls are very excited to have the sun shining into their classroom and are always looking for signs of Spring - new buds growing on the trees, flowers blossoming and milder weather. We've had a busy but exciting time in Room 1 in recent weeks. We had a wonderful Grandparents Day on Valentines. We celebrated by inviting our Grandparents in to visit our classrooms. There was a prayer service in the hall giving thanks for all that our Grandparents do but also rememebering those who were unable to make the day and those who have died. It was a real highlight for the children to show their Grandparents their classroom.
We had a tasty Pancake Tuesday. We wrote the recipe, "How to make pancakes". We then ate pancakes in the classroom. It was such a treat. In English, we are discussing the correct procedure in completing tasks.
We made jam sandwiches all by ourselves. We decided if we wanted butter on the bread and also which flavour of jam - strawberry or raspberry. We really enjoyed making the sandwiches for ourselves. Afterwards, we wrote about and drew pictures about how to make jam sandwiches. We are great friends in Room 1 but over the past number of weeks we are talking about what makes a good friend and how we also be a good friend. We have listened to stories and played some fun games based on it. Our favourite game was that with the wool!!! Have a look below - each time we threw the ball of wool to someone we said something positive about them Today we had a tasty surprise of baking buns. We talked about the utensils needed for baking buns and naming the ingredients. Together we measured each of the ingredients to make the delicious fairy cakes. They were carefully brought to the oven and we waited patiently for them to bake.
When the fairy cakes had cooled down, we decorated them and then got to enjoy them!!! |
We are now in first class in Room 12. In our class, there are 11 girls and 11 boys.
