The rain held off for our fun filled sports day!! There was a great turn out of parents, grandparents , guardians , neighbours and friends. we had races in running, skipping, hopping, jumping and even scissors races. The second class children raced against each other and were all very competitive! The winners in these races received rosettes. We had great fun trying out the potato and spoon race and the sack race too. All the children received a medal for participating in an action filled day.

This month we were having fun being scientists! The children got to explore various aspects of the science curriculum as well as having great fun doing experiments. We learned all about the human brain and our organs. We came up with ways to  keep our bodies healthy and functioning properly.
We went outside and had fun exploring the outside environment, looking at various materials around us and went on a hunt to identify things made from different materials. The children had great fun working outside together.
The best fun of all was making the biggest mess in the classroom by making Volcanoes and experimenting how they can erupt!

We had an exciting December with lots of fun things keeping us busy,  leading up to the Christmas festivities. The children were busy practicing for their Christmas play. They sang three songs beautifully. Click on the links below to have a sneek peek at them !
We also had the pleasure of seeing Santa arrive to our school on a fire engine! There was great excitement and each child got to meet him later that day.

Active Schools Week

We are back with a bang, after the Easter holidays! We are all bizz this week as it is Active schools week. We have been busy with the walking bus every morning on the way to school, then we do operation transformation10 @ 10. We have also managed to do a mile a day run around the school. Not to mention the 'drop everything and dance ' activities. Special active homework was instigated this week too, instead of written homework. There is no stopping us! Keep Active and less time on the computers/tablets/ipads/TVs!!

Paired Reading

We had great fun recently with the senior infants in room 10. We joined together so the children from the older classes could do paired reading with children in the younger classes. This provides great opportunities for the children to develop and experiment with their reading skills. They had loads of fun reading to each other, asking each other questions and developing their social skills.

St. Patrick's Day Fun.

The children were all kitted out in their patriotic clothes to celebrate St.Patrick's Day. We also dressed in green for our annual Spring walk Fundraiser. The children collected alot of money that will go towards educational resources in the school. We are all very grateful for the generious donations by the families in Ayrfield. The children had a great day performing songs and listening to each class at the ceolchoirm.

Pancake Tuesday!

Today we got to treat ourselves by tasting some pancakes as it is Pancake Tuesday. We celebrate pancake Tuesday as it is the day before Ash Wednesday, which is the start of Lent.
The children practiced procedural writing when learning about making pancakes. We used the traditional toppings of sugar and lemon. They were very tasty!!!

Taste Test!!

We were busy learning about our 5 Senses this week so we decided to test ourselves. The children were blindfolded and had to use their sense of, touch, smell and taste to figure out what the food was! There was some juicy, sweet and tasty things to try. But we also threw in some bitter, sour and not so nice tastings too!! Everyone was very brave and gave it a go. Great fun was had !

Halloween Fun!
