We really enjoyed the Musician Visit today in the halla. We listened carefully to the talented musicians (including our very own Ms. McDermott and Ms. Walsh!) and danced along to the clap dance. We were all inspired to give the brush dance a go when we got back to the classroom. Here we are with our very own 'Seachtain na Gaeilge' class mascot. Maith sibh!!

Room 5 made some brilliant pieces of artwork on Friday under the theme 'We are all Global Citizens'. We firstly had a look at the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We then made posters, using paint and oil pastels, to illustrate the importance of the SDGs for ensuring a cleaner, brighter future for all of earth's citizens. Well done to all the boys and girls in room 5 on their wonderful China projects! I am blown away by the research, creativity and hard work that went into each project. Have a look at some of the amazing things we have on show outside our classroom! The boys and girls in second class got to visit the hall today for a workshop from S.T.E.A.M. Academy. S.T.E.A.M. stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths. We learned all about robots and had a lot of fun playing interactive games. We even got to meet a robot dog who danced for us!!
We have our very own published authors in the school - the boys and girls of Room 5!! The pupils have been working on story writing the past few weeks. We learned about the writing process: planning, drafting, editing and publishing. Yesterday Ms. McCarthy's Junior Infants visited Room 5 and got to hear the second class students read their stories aloud. We designed a front cover and a blurb and tied our booklets together with red ribbon just in time to bring home for Christmas. Maith sibh!!
This week was Maths week and we got up to some fun activities! We love that parents come in and help us for Maths for fun every Tuesday this month - it's great fun getting to play Maths games. We also learned about Data and created our own graphs using information gathered from our classmates. On Friday we had our Maths dress-up day and took part in a Maths walk in pairs. Well done everyone!! We used papier mache to make various creations! Ms. Cashman loved how creative some people were, using different colours and textures on their balloons. Here we all are with our fabulous creations.
We loved playing games on Friday with Chris, especially the peg game. We all cheered on our teammates and had great fun! Thanks Chris!!
Last week we learned all about Autumn - especially trees, leaves and the animals that hibernate. We used all this information to write our own pieces about Autumn. We then traced and coloured some leaves and stuck them to our lovely display outside our classroom. We have also been gathering different leaves and conkers for our Autumn table in the classroom. Our teacher was very impressed with our writing!
We joined Julia Donaldson and Victoria Sandøy to celebrate trees, nature and new book "The Oak Tree" through crowd-cast. We listened to Julia read her new book and then joined Victoria in an illustrating session where we created lovely oak tree pictures. We learned all about oak trees and were impressed that some trees can live up to 1000 years old!!
