Our Work from Home!
I know a lot of Room 16 are missing their friends and sharing their news and creations so I really hope these will help. I'm amazed at some of the baking that has been going on at home, the cakes looks really delicious and gave me some inspiration to get mixing!!
As you can see - somebody had a busy week of school work! Big well done to C, she made sure she got her English, Maths and Gaeilge. She also took some time to do some cooking (homemade chicken goujons!), and designed her own YouTube Logo which features her favourite Sloth Teddy. During our first Zoom Assembly we had the privilege of getting to meet Slothie for our Teddy Bear picnic. He seemed like he would make a great co-host if she were to ever setup her own YouTube channel.
I have received some amazing Sports Week pictures over the weekend, and I am so impressed with Room 16 and their fantastic efforts.
You can see below some of the brilliant obstacle courses, races, and games that were played. Well done to all the children (and families!) who took part in Sports Week.
Special mention to Cara, Jayden and Mila for their WONDERFUL efforts on their walks and cycles this week, all reaching OVER 7km each during Sports Week! Thanks to your Mam's for emailing me with your final count on your KM's this week. Big well done to you all.

C has been doing some wonderful work at home, she enjoyed the little extended Bank Holiday we had last week and used her time off to make some incredible pieces. I particularly love the rocket, I know how impressed we all were with it during our Zoom assembly last Friday. Big well done to you and your family again!
T and her sister have been working really hard at home, there was a big focus on exercise this week and I can't believe how strong they are. I'm tired just looking at how heavy the ropes are (and I didn't even have to lift them!!) Well done T on keeping active and enjoying exercising with your family and lovely Teddy. P.S I'm sure Attendance Ted will be delighted to see you including some of your Teddies in your exercise routines!
W has been really creative with his handwriting work this week. I loved seeing his sentences and the colourful pictures to match. I really enjoyed seeing how brilliant his animals were for our Irish lessons, the elephant in particular caught my eye!
C has been busy again this week, she was so kind to Attendance Ted after seeing his new Blog post and sent him the most amazing video with her favourite sloth teddy while she did 5 exercises. As you can see she also dedicated her News to him to keep him updated. He's a lucky bear to have such wonderful students in Room 16 looking out for him!
A-M has been busy working away at home, look at her wonderful Irish and handwriting. She also celebrated a very special birthday since we have been off from school, I have to say her cake looks absolutely delicious!!!!
The weather has been so lovely I'm delighted to see so many of you out enjoying some fresh air. G has been out scooting and enjoying the fresh air. He has loved seeing all your updates from home and enjoys checking out the webpage regularly.
I also loved the News W has shared with us, look how amazing his handwriting is. I'm so glad he has been enjoying the nice weather we're having.
C has been learning all about Money and Space as you can see her galaxy rocks are out of this world!!! She has also been a busy bee baking in the kitchen - look how great those brownies are!
D has been doing lots of nature trails, baking a yummy Pavlova, and even painted the windows of his house with his family, I think they would brighten up anybody's day.
I am so impressed to see how colourful and creative C's Irish work was. I think we would all agree we would be willing to move into this beautiful home she created very quickly!! Well done for such amazing work!
If you have any pictures of the wonderful work the children are doing at home please feel free to email them to me at msgilligan@stpaulsjns.ie and I can add them to the website.
Here you can see W who did some amazing artwork to display in his windows for both St. Patrick's Day and Easter. I'm sure all your neighbours had smiles on their faces when they saw the colourful windows!

March in Room 16
There was lots to celebrate in March, we had World Book Day on 5th, International Women's Day on the 8th, St Patrick's Day on the 17th, Mother's Day on the 22nd. We had also been spending time discussing and learning about Lent, and Easter. We had lots of wonderful ideas of what we could give up for lent, or something new we could take up. I was VERY impressed with room 16, they really wanted to challenge themselves.
We had been planning lots of exciting things including The Spring Walk some of which are on hold until it is safe for us all to return to school.

St Patrick's Day Celebrations
On March 12th we had a wonderful visit from some special guests including our Junior Infant teacher Ms McDermott and her son. They came in and played some traditional Irish Music and showed us all the instruments they played. These included a harp, bodhrán, tin whistle, uileann pipes and fiddle. We also got to see some amazing Irish Dancing too! A big thank you for visiting us and showing us all the amazing instruments.
World Book Day - 5th of March 2020
World Book Day was celebrated in lots of ways throughout the school, one of the ways Room 16 got surprised with was with books from the school Library that they got to keep and take home to practice their lovely reading!
Ms Gilligan also started reading the 'Giggler Treatment' by Roddy Doyle - which we LOVE! She reads to us when we are getting ready for yard and we always love the classroom full of giggles.
We also had great discussions about the wonderful books we have in our library and our favourite books. We then drew our favourite book covers, they were brilliant and we displayed them very proudly outside our classroom for all our friends to see.

February in Room 16
Valentine's Day - Pink & Red Day!
In February we celebrated Valentine's Day, it meant we got to wear our favourite pink or red clothes into school and didn't need to worry about our uniforms! We had lots of fun in class and had some first class visitors during the day where we did some artwork together. We had been learning a lot about butterflies in SESE and used that as our inspiration for some of our artwork. We made some special cards and surprises for all the lovely people in our lives. Most of the lovely parents and guardians will know exactly what these surprises are, but for those of you who might need a reminder here are some examples!
