We went on our school trip to Dublin Zoo. We were so excited for this trip and couldn't wait to see all the animals. Brandon was our tour guide who brought us down to the African Savannah. He learned lots about the rhino, giraffe and and zebra. We then made our way back through the zoo and saw so many animals - monkeys, gorilla's, orangutan, penguins, flamingos, hippo, sea lions, penguins. We had the best day and were delighted to see our grown ups to tell them about our exciting day.
Recently, we had a visit from two members of cabin crew and a pilot. They spoke to us about their job and we had lots of questions for them which they answered. We enjoyed seeing their uniforms and learning lots of facts about the airport and airplanes. A big thanks to Ava's Mam for organising all. In P.E. we are focusing on the area of orienteering. We have found this really fun. We each have a key card and have to find the corresponding picture under the cone. We are looking forward to completing more orienteering activities. It was a busy month for visitors to our school. Firefighters from North Strand Fire Station and Gardaí from Coolock Garda Station came for a visit. We enjoyed learning more about the emergency services in our community. World Book Day brought great excitement for the children in Room 1. Everyone brought in their favourite book - we made a book review of these. They are on display on our corridor. The children from second class visited us - they read their favourite book and we read our book to them. This was a real highlight for the children. Congratulations to all the boys and girls on successfully completing the Mighty Mouth Programme. Over the past few weeks we have learned lots about looking after our teeth. We are trying our best to drink more water and milk but less juices and fizzy drinks.. We are also taking our time when brushing our teeth at home both morning and night. Many thanks to our local dental nurse Adrienne for facilitating the programme and coming in to visit the children in Room 1. We recently had a visit from Garda Conor. He spoke to us about the various parts of his uniform - hat, vest, handcuffs and walkie talkie. We even got to hold some of these. Conor chatted to us about the importance of the Gardaí and how they are there to help us in times of need. Garda Conor even answered out questions - some of which were very tricky!! Spring is finally here. The boys and girls are very excited to have the sun shining into their classroom and are always looking for signs of Spring - new buds growing on the trees, flowers blossoming and milder weather. We've had a busy but exciting time in Room 1 in recent weeks. We had a wonderful Grandparents Day on Valentines. We celebrated by inviting our Grandparents in to visit our classrooms. There was a prayer service in the hall giving thanks for all that our Grandparents do but also rememebering those who were unable to make the day and those who have died. It was a real highlight for the children to show their Grandparents their classroom.
We had a tasty Pancake Tuesday. We wrote the recipe, "How to make pancakes". We then ate pancakes in the classroom. It was such a treat. In English, we are discussing the correct procedure in completing tasks.
We made jam sandwiches all by ourselves. We decided if we wanted butter on the bread and also which flavour of jam - strawberry or raspberry. We really enjoyed making the sandwiches for ourselves. Afterwards, we wrote about and drew pictures about how to make jam sandwiches. |
