School History
St. Paul’s JNS, Ayrfield, was originally established in 1974. At that time it was located in a temporary building on the grounds of St. Paul’s Church, Ayrfield. In 1976 the school moved to its new building on Clonrosse Drive and we have remained there ever since. Our senior school, St. Paul’s SNS, joined us on the same campus in 1978 when the school building was complete. We are fortunate in having a fine green space to the rear of our school which we use for games and sports.
Mrs Mary Regan was our first principal and she worked with Fr. Fagan in ensuring that the school was established on sound educational principles. In 1980 she was succeeded by Mrs Breege Patton who headed the school for 24 years as it grew into a large, vibrant, suburban school with a staff of twenty two teachers.
Our pupil population has always been drawn mainly from the parish of Ayrfield. It also draws children from the surrounding parishes. Our peak attendance was in the 1980s when we had almost six hundred pupils with prefabs to accommodate the large numbers of pupils. This number has now steadied reflecting the maturing nature of the locality and enabling us to have a lovely school community where all the children are known individually.
St. Paul’s J.N.S. is a Catholic co-educational school catering for children from Junior Infants to Second Class. Our school aims to provide a happy, secure, friendly learning environment where everyone works together to enable each child to reach their full potential intellectually, socially and spiritually. We believe that each child has a unique and special contribution to make. We believe every child matters and we endeavour to achieve quality in all that we do.
